COXWOLD
REDSTART (1964-1995) was the foundation stallion of the Gschwendthof line.
His son, GSCHWENDT ROVING FELLOW (1970-1994) fascinated his fans with his
gentle character, his excellent gaits and his charming personality. Milos
Welde trained the Dun stallion to advanced level in dressage, won many regional
Single driving championships, and was Austrian National Champion four times.
Roving Fellow's versatility - under saddle, in harness, on the long rein
and in free dressage - became legend.
His offspring are also very successful, especially in the disciplines of
driving and eventing. Three of the Pairs taking part in the Driving World
Championships at Sandringham, England in 1985 were from the Gschwendthof
line.
With the import of Kladruber mares and the crossing with Welsh Cob stallions
the Podhajsky-Schimmel, named after the legendary Oberst Podhajsky, was
bred at Gschwendthof.
With this élitist breed, Ewald Welde won the first Pairs Driving
Championships in Austria. With them he took part in three World Championships,
and in 1985, at the World Driving Championships in Sandringham, England,
he came first in the dressage section.
Podhajsky-Schimmels and Welsh Cobs have been exported all over the world
- even King Hassan of Morocco acquired four Podhajsky stallions for the
royal stables from the Gschwendthof line. |
